I was listening to my music library on shuffle yesterday and it threw some Zappa right in my face. I don't know why this happens but I find myself not listening to Zappa for months at a time and then always kicking myself in the ass when he gets back into my rotation. I mean whats not to like about him??? Great/hilarious lyrics, his band always consisted of the best of the best musicians around at the time, and the guy fucking destroyed on the guitar.
He was also king to some of the best one liners around. Some of my personal favorites:
- A mind is like a parachute. It doesnt work if it's not open
- All the good music has already been written by people with wigs and stuff.
- Most rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for people who can't read.
- Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.
- Tobacco is my favorite vegetable

Also just to add a few more notes. If you ever meet an actual Zappa fan that was there in the 70's...they are some of the craziest people out there. I have a Zappa shirt and whenever I wear it I get weird comments from old people who have that I took too much acid when I was younger look in there eyes. The strangest one was when I heard someone kinda calling me but in a whisper at the supermarket. All the sudden I see the butcher looking me all weird. He waves me over and says in a creepy whisper "you like muffins...muffin man???" it was very awkward and I got the hell out of there.
