I posted about Real Estate back in January (because I blog SO. F*CKING. HARD.), and I just wanted to post again because they were a great highlight of the Woodsist/Captured Tracks festival yesterday. Perfect for a hot, sunny day peppered with cheap beer and hamburgers (and amazing people-watching...like a JellyNYC McCarren Pool party concentrated by 1,000). They were very summery, very dreamy, and despite some front-of-house sound problems (ie. all of the speakers going out so that we could only hear the on-stage monitors and the amplifiers), they somehow sounded better, more "as-intended". Check them out with Wavves (MELTDOWN!!!!) and Popo at Bowery Ballroom 7/15. They are from New Jersey.

Some other observations from the festival:
1.) The Fresh & Onlys were also dope. On that bill, having songs with what amount to "hooks" in that scene makes you an absolute show-stopper. People were dancing.
2.) Dum Dum Girls sing amazingly well.
3.) The Vivian Girls love dogs, specifically Tobias. Their new record might be kind of ok. More to come on that, to be sure.
4.) Todd P works his ASS OFF. Everywhere you turned, he was hard at work doing something behind the scenes to make something about the day better. This included re-fueling the generator, adjusting the on-stage lighting before, during, and after people's sets, making sure the cops didn't come for any of a myriad of possible reasons, and making sure people's burgers were ok. What he does takes way more love and dedication to music than playing in a band.
5.) Having the Dead as the house music between bands was oddly perfect.
