Fred Falke + Kris Menace = BBC Essential Mix
Is it 1994?
Shout out to Yankus for making this great point to me moments ago, but I also couldn't help but notice this. I get all these (mostly pointless) alerts from Ticketmaster/LiveNation/Bowery Presents...etc...but this weeks "upcoming shows" were particularly ridiculous
Who is still seriously excited to see these acts?

ALANIS AT RADIO CITY!?!? FOR $80???

A Frat Boy's Guide to the 4.0

An Official Dreamtard endorsement of A Frat Boy's Guide to the 4.0; How to Strap on a Pair of Gender-Ambiguous Balls & Make College Work for You by friend-of-the-blog Cole Harms. This site will be updated daily, and provide readers a comprehensive guide on how to make broad strides in life while still being able to maintain a tough and cool personae. Make sure you check this site out and all the valuable life lessons it has to offer.
Here's a fun and important passage:
A resumé, in case you aren’t yet in the know, is the single sheet of paper that summarizes your academic and professional worth, thus allowing the could-be employers of your professional future to breezily determine whether they should open the door for you, or slam it in your face.
We’ll delve deeper into how to put together a resumé worth having when the time comes, but for starters, here’s a little perspective: as an incoming freshman, if you had to fill a page, here’s what your resumé would probably look like…

SymbolOne Farted on My Heart

SymbolOne rarely misses. This is definitely not a miss. This is SymbolOne's remix of dvas killer track ambient room. The sound on this is really stellar I am a HUGE fan. Great track. I hope we see more of this in the future. ALSO, we are trying out a little rating feature below. Give it a spin and tell us what you think in the comments. Thanks.

Ween Weekend 2008 - McCarren Pool, Brooklyn

In a word.... Awesome. Truly a summer day in NYC to be remembered forever.
Our pregame at Pete's Candy Store was amazing. This place offered some delicious, reasonably priced drinks (The Kentucky Root Beer was K.C's favorite, and nobody can argue with $3 pints of Brooklyn Lager) in a one of a kind back-yard garden. I'm also pretty sure one of the burglers from Home Alone was hanging out there....Maybe not. I couldn't recommend this bar more highly for a McCarren Pool pregame...so, keep that in mind for the next 30 days.
What can I say about McCarren Pool...
This was my first time ever going there, and I'm thoroughly disapointed in myself that it wasn't the 20th. Hands down the best outdoor venue in NYC, and quite possibly the best outdoor venue ever. The perfect weather also likely contributed to my overall "blown away" mentality of this place as well.
Ween....
Totally, totally ruled.

Obligated

I am so tired after Ween Weekend it's insane. The show kicked ass and I am sure JLes will do a full review. If not, I just sorta made him by saying that he would. Anyway, the track below or the mix below is from the Dior Homme thing that Daft Punk did a set for last year. Whatever. I felt obligated since Justice is....well Justice....and I guess I just have to post it.
Justice - Dior Homme Spring Summer 09 Mix
There is a new Justice track amongst the mix somewhere. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet because I am still coming back from the dead. Stay crazy.

SONIC YOUTH, McCarren Pool, 8/30/08

Sonic Youth will play the last ever concert at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn on Saturday, August 30th, marking the end of the pool's run as the hands-down best outdoor music venue in NYC, in this guy's inconsequential opinion. The folks who run the different musical events there all summer are making it one to remember, with headlining shows by Ween, Wilco, and now Sonic Youth, not to mention an amazing lineup for JellyNYC's Sunday afternoon Pool Parties free concert series. By next summer, it will be a giant public toilet...errrr...pool...once again. Sonic Youth solidified themselves as my favorite band of all time with their crazy-good set at Battery Park on July 4th (as well as with several amazing albums, bizarre guitar tunings, Jazzmasters, and Kim Gordon). Tickets go on sale today, Friday July 25th at 12PM, RIGHT HERE. If you're not going to vacate the city that weekend, I highly recommend not missing this. If you haven't seen Sonic Youth, you need to. People are often dismissive of them as "just noise". I want to shake those people, because bands that make "just noise" don't last 25 years and make several classic, must-own records. That said, yes...they make a considerable racket and are "not for everybody". In honor of this incredible news, this week's playlist is all of my favorite Sonic Youth songs. Brought to you by the color red, and the letter Q...

Ween.....so close

Ween is playing Brooklyn's McCarren Pool this Friday, and I pretty much can't focus on anything else I'm so pumped. There is an insane amount of awesome Ween footage on youtube...enough to get absolutely nothing done all day.
Please, get nothing done with me:
Ween, "Buckingham Green", circa 1997, in a backwoods tv studio
See you Friday
UPDATE (Dave edition): I was going to do a post about MY excitement about Ween but it appears Jles beat me to it. Anyway I am excited too.

Frankmusik, "In Step"
I challenge you to not have this song stuck in your head for the rest of eternity. That's forever, son. This is Frankmusik's "In Step" video. I predict an Eric Prydz "Call on Me" type blowup for this song once the college kids get a hold of it. His girlfriend is a really good hula-hooper. They make out at the end. Look at her go!
UPDATE (by Dave): This is amazing. Here is the track for download. Enjoy.

Shitty

It's pretty shitty outside today in New York City. It's hot, it's raining, everything sucks about the weather out there. Here are some tunes that will hopefully cheer you up. How's everyone doing? We all feeling okay? Remember, two in the toe, they will never know.
Pryda - Pjanoo (Fred Falke Remix)
Yet another remix by Fred Falke. I am not going to bother explaining his deal again.
The Who - Baba O'Riley (SebastiAn Remix)
The above track is clearly a remix done by SebastiAn of Ed Banger fame of The Who's famous track. It fucking kills.
revolte - les mecs kleenex
Who doesn't like revolte?
farley jackmaster funk - love cant turn around (lifelike 2008 mix)
And finally a little lifelike to go with your regular dose of Fred Falke. Not a huge fan of this track, sorry.

The Associated Press
NOVI, Mich. - A 33-year-old Michigan man is accused of wearing a "World's Greatest Dad" shirt to a meeting for sex with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl.
Daniel Allen Everett of Clarkston was arraigned Tuesday in Novi (NOE'-veye) on charges of child sexual abuse and using the Internet to attempt child sexual abuse.
A jail official says it isn't known whether Everett has a lawyer.
A spokesman for Attorney General Mike Cox could not confirm whether Everett has children. But Cox says in a statement that the arrest is a reminder that "a parent can pose a threat to our children."
Magistrate Andra Dudley set Everett's bond at $50,000.

Fleet Foxes

I hate myself right now. I am serious. I honestly tried, I seriously tried to hate The Fleet Foxes. I thought to myself, these guys are pretentious and stupid and they think really highly of themselves and their music and this just another Pitchfork love-child that douchebags can drool over. Their album kicks FUCKING ass. Their EP Kicks FUCKING ass. I tried to hate them, but I can't, I ordered their LP off Sub Pop's website. I am a fan, I support them, its a GREAT album. Good work. Shit I wish I didn't like it. I am sure my cousin or someone young chap is going to be like, "hey...Dave...our uncle told me you run a website that talks about music and no one reads it.....do you like Girl Talk, Justice and Fleet Foxes" and I will say "ugh......fuck my life" and poop in my pants. Here is a video of what I am talking about since most of you are probably like...why do I still read this site.
And here is a little nugget I really liked courtesy of Kendall.

Smell the Glove

I just needed a random tout for this post. I thought ''Smell the Glove'' was funny, I love Spinal Tap. Anyway, below is some cool shit. The first item is yet another Fred Falke remix, this dude is just amazing. He was at the Tribeca Grand this weekend in NYC but I didn't stop by. I know Showtrotta did so expect something on that from her (hahah I totally just threw her under the bus because now she HAS to write something...take THAT...god I suck). Anyway after the remix is a pretty great interview with Pedro Winter from Pitchfork. Pedro is a cool dude, obviously. More later.

Budweiser Presents: Real Men of Corporate Spinelessness and Treason
What....the.....FUCK happened America???!?!
Today, a 132 year-old American Icon, Budweiser beer, was shamelessly sold to Belgian Brewer InBev for $52 Billion....and I'm furious. ALLLLLLLL that money on ad campaigns (Remember "wassssaaaap?") over the years and they can't even make a last ditch effot to rally American support around the oldest American beer, to keep it in America. Instead, they'd rather take a $5 premium on shares of it's stock and throw in the towel. This is corporate terrorism...and I will never forget.
Today, my friends, I announce the official Dreamtard boycott of all Budweiser products, with the hope that Budweiser will produce far less revenue, InBev will regret their purchase, and sell it back to America. I hereby frown upon anyone that drinks any of the following beers:
Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Select, Bud Ice, Bud Ice Light, Budweiser Brew Masters Private Reserve, Bud Dry, Bud Silver, Bud Extra, Bud Light Chelada, Budweiser American Ale, and Bud Light Lime.
If you're ever caught drinking any of these beers in the future, then the terrorists win.
"But what am I gonna drink??!?"
MILLER LITE...that's what. An American Cultural Icon since the premier of MTV's Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica in 2003, Miller Lite is the only beer that American Legend Nick Lachey drinks...and I salute his patriotism. Nick Lachey is the very essence of America: He became famous by being in a boy-band, he loves college football, he solidified his fame by appearing on an American reality T.V show, and he got married too young, resulting in divorce....America.
I mean, look at this All-American Photo:
MTV VJ's who become models, American Universities, 3 day facial hair growth, consumerism, blue jeans, and.....30 racks of Miller Lite. This photo is America at it's finest. (Not pictured: paparazzi)
Join Dreamtard and Nick Lachey in ushering in this new chapter in American History..... drink Miller Lite.
...PBR's cool too.

New Old Discovery: The Waitresses

I recently realized I owned this band's 1982 "Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful" LP, inherited from my mom, who I have always given credit for having tastes a little advanced of my own. Folks might be familiar with their hits "I Know What Boys Like" and cynical Christmas favorite "Christmas Wrapping", which still probably gets some spins on 95.5 WPLJ during the ever-expanding August-January Christmas season. They also did the theme song to "Square Pegs", which is some show featuring a 14 or 15 year old Sarah Jessica Parker nobody cares about. I recently gave the album a listen and it is pretty cool.
Obvious comparisons can be drawn with Blondie, but Patty Donohue's voice doesn't really approach the range of Deborah Harry, and the vocals and instrumentation are just a little bit weirder and more art-school than Blondie. This band formed in Kent, Ohio and relocated to New York City at some point, because that's just what you did when you were a band in Kent, Ohio. Here are a few of their songs from "Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful". "No Guilt" is a favorite, great obsessive-compulsive breakup song, featuring the killer line "I know someone who really met Belushi." "I Know What Boys Like" is labeled as The Slits, but it is actually the Waitresses. Sometimes the internet farts and things like that happen. Check it out:
