Air France - No Way Down

I downloaded this album by Air France this weekend and it's fucking amazing. It really is terrific start to finish, I wish it was longer, I wish it wasn't an EP. I wish I could make sweet sweet love to it. Really just a kick ass summer record, check it out fools. Below is one of my favorite tracks from the album, the whole thing however, is pretty rad.

June Evenings - Air France

Joe Cocker: Woodstock Translation

A Classic Woodstock performance translated for those of us too young to have been there, or too cheesed up to understand what he was actually saying.

Thanks Liz S. for sending this in.

I REALLY wish this was a real movie

One of the best fake trailers I've ever seen. Someone should actually make this a real movie.

Thank you WithLeather

Dreamtard presents: "Guess that Cheesedick on YouTube!"

This one is really only for the Bville kids that visit this site...so don't bother watching if you don't fall into that category, cause you probably will have no idea.

Thanks to Lizzy and Christina for this video...

Do you recognize the cornball in this video (the guy)? First one to answer in the comments wins a Dreamtard t-shirt.

Apparently he was nowhere near the Eiffel Tower, the Yankee Stadium Centerfield Scoreboard, or didn't want to spring for a pilot to sky-write the marriage proposal...so this had to do.

Did she even see him on Shipmates!?!?!

A-Trak - Running Man + Danger

A-Trak has a new mix out for Nike called Running Man. It's available via iTunes. I haven't heard it yet but judging by Dirty South Dance it's going to be epic. I would get it if I were you.

Danger lastnight, though awesome, was to be expected, it is essentially the videos I had posted but in real life. Totally sick. And the people who held the event could not have been chiller. The venue itself is really sweet, I guess the only downside for me is being there alone, and having to have oral surgery today which totally blows. Expect little electro content till tomorrow afternoon.

Stay Crazy bitches.

UPDATE: There is a new Danger remix I found courtesy of Asian Man Dan, it's only on SymbolOnes myspace. It's rad.

'Murketing' to Hipsters Saves Pabst, Boosts Apple

THEY'RE ONTO YOU!!!! BLOOMBERG KNOWS ABOUT YOUR ATTEMPTS AT REBELLION/AUTHENTICITY.... what the HELL are we gonna do about the corporations, bro???

ABORT!!! ABORT!! I now only drink $15 beers from the Oyster Bar in Grand Central.

Review by Carly Berwick

June 25 (Bloomberg) -- Opinionated people who hate being sold to -- that is, most of us -- have always been a problem for consumer-goods companies. As early as 1939, business magazines were warning executives about ``better organized'' consumers who were sick of ``deceptive and stupid advertising.''

So today, successful brands know better than to order some quick copy about the New Best Thing, splash a half-naked girl next to it and count on millions to happily open their wallets.

Instead, they skip overt marketing altogether and engage in ``murketing,'' says Rob Walker in his revealing new book, ``Buying In: The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are.'' Companies like American Apparel, Apple, Pabst, Timberland and Red Bull have done remarkably well over the past decade by trading on our desire for authenticity and our reluctance to seem like easy marks.

A ``do little, sell more'' approach worked like a charm for Pabst Brewing Co. Sales of its flagship product, Pabst Blue Ribbon, rose in 2002, reversing a decades-long trend of declining consumption. The company had no idea why. It turns out the beer was suddenly being embraced by young urban hipsters who appreciated the dollar-a-can promotion in certain bars and who, more to the point, liked the beer's underground, undersold image.

So to keep these new buyers, Pabst did almost nothing. It refused to take out ads or court the media and instead funded low-key ``bike polo'' matches between rowdy bike messengers in Portland, Oregon. Sales continued to grow. The unbranded beer is Pabst's brand.

We're Not Gullible

``Buying In'' is more complex than it at first appears. Essentially a collection of case studies based on Walker's New York Times Magazine column, it seems to be saying that marketers have figured out how to take advantage of our annoyance at the product song and dance and our eagerness to TiVo the jingles away. But the point is not that we're gullible.

``What's striking about contemporary youth is not that they are somehow brandproof,'' Walker says, ``but that they take for granted the idea that a brand is as good a piece of raw identity material as anything else.'' Even rebellious skateboarders long to start their own T-shirt companies -- and often become successful precisely because, coming from skateboarders, T-shirts possess the aura of rebellion.

Conscious Consumption

Walker wants us to recognize the personal narratives that are embedded in well-murketed products -- such as the outlaw, the pragmatist, the aesthete or, for the 40-year-old iPod owner, the hardworking family man with an electric guitar stashed in his past. Then, in theory, we can consume more consciously.

This is borderline manifesto territory, and Walker treads it carefully. Taking his analysis to heart would mean undergoing psychoanalysis of the credit-card statement, something that sounds a lot less fun than throwing on an American Apparel hoodie, cranking up the iPod and opening a can of Pabst.

``Buying In: The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are'' is published by Random House (291 pages, $25, 18.99 pounds).

Danger tonight

Danger tonight in Bushwick at Bodega. Should be a fun time. Who is going? I am going alone, anyone want to get a drink at the venue? I don't even have to know you, I will just assume that if you are reading this you are probably pretty rad. Thoughts on the 'Heathers' background?

Valerie

I am a big fan of almost everything that comes out of Valerie. Here is there theme song and a new NLLR mix by Anoraak. Both are great in their own right. Check out Valerie and their associates.

MGMT - Electric Feel (Justice Remix)

Not long ago I posted this remix, or a two minute sample of this remix, and it was pretty good, MGMT is kinda annoying me at this point, and really, so is Justice. This however, is undeniably really good. I am a big fan of this track. It sounds like familiar Justice but a little fresher for them. Six thumbs up. Sorry for the delay I know this track came out a couple days ago. Check it.

National Go Skateboarding Day

Today is the longest day of the year, so you know what that means everyone.....It's National Go Skateboarding Day!!! Although this is the lamest named event on earth, it was absolutely amazing outside, so I did my national duty and skated pretty much all day today. And now I'm about to go to Danger. That, my friends, is a textbook Boner Jam.

met some ridiculous skateboarders today who totally killed it. This kid being one of them. I LOVE my Flip Video.

Danger.....Finally

The day is almost here, tomorrow, we are going to see Danger, expect videos, but these videos will probably be of even worse quality than the ones from lifelike as they will mostly consist of me crappy my pants and yelling at a dude in a kick ass face mask that doesn't speak English. Thanks to GBH for putting together another amazing line up. I really don't care about a large majority of the other performers, minus maybe Alex English who overall puts together great sets and is a good dude. It's going to be beautiful. Below are some random nuggets including a recent Surkin set. Love that dude.

Surkin @ Institubes Respect Terror Club 18/06/2008

I was going to post the new Girl Talk album, but I don't want to admit that I listened to it. Expect serious Urban Outfitter play time. Is that a bad thing and if you were Girl Talk would that bum you out? I mean it would be a sign that he is making money? Or am I wrong? Is anyone reading this? Poop. Oh, and before when I said I had nuggets I guess it was only one, just the Surkin, I will post more later, deal with it.

UPDATE:

I just spoke with Webster Hall. The doors open at 11, which I already knew, the event will start at 12, with each performer doing ~1 hour. The following is the performance order.

DJ Funk
Danger
Dave 1
Crookers
Spitzer

Get excited!

Trey's Drug Court Graduation

Thanks Squeeky for this. Good for Trey.

Studio - Yearbook 2

Studio put out a fantastic album last year called West Coast. I really loved it for a number of reasons. Their new album is out June 23rd and I am extremely excited, this could be the album of the summer for me. The video below is a promo for the upcoming release.

George W. Bush- Invigorating America's Youth

We've only got the guy around for another 6 months, so we might as well get our last licks in while we can. I've gotta say David Letterman was off my radar for a solid 3 years (maybe more), but THIS CLIP ESPECIALLY and the following have certainly made me chuckle. Thanks to Dan for the look.

I can't wait for my pearl necklace on Saturday.

Moving

I am in the process of moving. Well, I moved yesterday, and now today and the rest of the week I am sorta getting stuff organized. Moving sucks. Anyway, here is a little something to wet your beak. Rest assured friends, I will be ready to rock my fucking face off come Saturday night when Danger gives JLes a pearl necklace backstage. Awesome.

Teenage Jesus and the Jerks

Two members of dreamtard, Dave (me) and Matt went to see the art opening for Thurston Moore's kick ass No Wave book. It was really crowded, really hot, but some of the photos were really interesting to see, and Thurston was there so Matt and I got to be fan boy creeps and giggle from a-far. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have gotten him to sign a copy of the book but alas, I am a moron. The picture above (from Pitchfork Media) includes two members of dreamtard, can you spot us. Hint: I am almost/pretty much not in the photo at all, minus my foot and the top of my head. YEAH! Anyway, I am super excited to see Sonic Youth again on July 4th at Battery Park. Thurston is the man. People who disagree because they think its super cool to disagree can do so in the comments, it will make you feel better about yourself. Have fun!!!!!

Busy P

It feels like a Pedro kinda day. Here is a sweet video hinting at a Red Hot Chili Peppers collab. with Justice. Yikes. Also the main man himself Busy P has a sweet EP out June 23rd. I will most certainly be picking this up.

I love how he just casually mentions So_Me. "oh this French artist named So_Me."

Epicly Later'd - Billy Rohan

Dreamtard is an NYC blog and Billy Rohan is an NYC skater... show love

Best Albums 2008...so far.

Gorilla vs. Bear did a story about the best albums of this year so for. I really like the idea. Here are my top 5 for right now. These could totally change by the end of the day...so...yeah...if you want list yours in the comments then we can make fun of each other like assholes.

(1) Quiet Village - Silent Movie
(2) The Evangelicals - The Evening Descends
(3) Lil' Wayne - Tha' Carter III
(4) Atlas Sound - Let the Blind...
(5) Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

You?

Cool Kids Interview

Pretty self explanatory. I really like their new Bake Sale EP.

King of the World Mom!!

So A-Trak -- who is a self proclaimed not worker outer -- is making a mix for Nike that will be sold on iTunes. I know many of 'Gate buttholes love his first mix 'Dirty South Dance' so this should come as good news. More on that when I hear about it. Below are a couple new tracks I have been hearing that are really great. Sorry for the lack of electro/music related posts I am in the process of moving soon and well.....it's a huge pain in my assholes. You heard me..plural. Anyway expect a ton when the dust settles. Also, I just haven't been hearing anything good. I heard the NT89 remix of Cut Copy's 'Hearts on Fire'....just plain didn't like it. Didn't work at all in my opinion. Whose excited for Danger? I know I am.

Here is a track that is pure gold however. Wu Tang and Bloody Beatroots....rad. PS: I love ellipsis...PPS: I love PS

Wu-Tang Clan - Stomp (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

A little gem from DJ Mehdi (Ed Banger Records). You know, just something to keep our Ed Banger urges at bay. What a terrific record label. We all know dreamtards feelings toward Pedro Winter aka Megadeth.

DJ Mehdi - Vienne Mix / Ed Banger Records

And of course no post would be complete without a little Lifelike love. Here is a new terrific remix of course. Sorry the video from Saturday isn't up yet. It will be, some of the footage is great. I believe there is even a part where some guy asks me to film him and his girlfriend. Yeah, dude, I am real important, I am taking video for a website 6 people max read and I think 3 of those people don't really speak English all that well and the other three are my Mom.

The Energies - Born Again Runner (Lifelike Remix)

More Later. Till then. Stay Crazy.

UPDATE: A new Danger remix. Get after it.

We Are Scientists - Chick Lit (Danger TV Remix)

lifelike - (Studio B) 6-7-08

Okay so these videos could be be better quality but I think you get the idea. And honestly they are pretty entertaining to hear the idiots in the background either yelling weird stuff or singing the wrong song. Enjoy. Again, not great, but why not relive that special moment with French people.

Weekly Theme Playlists Coming

Since I post so irregularly, I had an idea that I should post a different playlist created via Imeem that you can stream from the site here and enjoy. I want to make each one relating to a different theme: fear, greed, sex, tickling, boys, girls, pillows, apples, horses, chips, weather...that about sums up all of the world's major important themes right there, but I welcome and encourage your ideas in the comments section regarding themes for upcoming playlists that I may not have thought about. Maybe we can make a game where you guess the theme and win something. I stole this idea from Bob Dylan.

Currently on Rotation

This section on the side there will be changed over the weekend. Please post in the comments what you, as a dreamtard reader, have been listening to and I will try to include that if it's interesting. This of course does not include people who are regular authors so JLes and Matt can just tell me directly. Otherwise, let me know!

Also. Who wants a dreamtard t-shirt? There were a handful made this winter...like 4-6. They are black, and have the logo on the front in white...obviously. Anyway. If you think we should make more and you might want one. Put that in the comments too. You too can have people walk up to you and be like...what the hell does that mean?

Dreamtard's Fathers Day Gift Idea

Father's Day is this Sunday everyone, and it's time to pay hommage to the man who impregnated your mother (hopefully). Historically speaking, I've found this to be one of the more difficult days to give a gift. I mean, Mother's Day?? pfft....1-800 Flowers, a card, a hug and your golden. But Father's day is way more difficult. "Hey Dad, here's a tie you'll never wear or actually appreciate! Thanks for paying for my college tuition!"

But this year, my friends, I know I've hit a home run. I saw this device last year at Cutler's house, and was recommended a particular brand by Michael....so I've got to thank the both of them for the Dreamtard Father's Day Gift Idea of 2008:

The Electronically Charged Fly Swatting Tennis Raquet

This device is perfect for any father that enjoys summertime grilling, sitting outside on a deck or porch, and tortuing mosquitos and flies (a.k.a every single male on earth)....and at $12 a racquet, you can buy him 2 so HE can give one as a gift to someone else. There are many versions of the electronic fly-swatting tennis raquet out there, some safer (read: lamer) than others, but according to Michael, this is the one that "puts the bugs on fire.".... Hours of fun and finally a reason to look forward to a muggy August.

Buy one HERE today at Amazon.com..... and tell 'em Dreamtard sent you for an additional 0% off.

"It's Always Sunny..." makes a bid for the Philly Soul

From Philly.com (...ugh)

Although "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" won't be shooting at the Center City office of the Philadelphia Soul, the FX comedy series will soon re-create the team's office on its set in Culver City, Calif. As part of the episode "Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life," some of which was shot here last week, Mac, played by South Philly-raised Rob McElhenney, and Frank, played by Danny DeVito, try to purchase the arena football team from Jon Bon Jovi.

The show is hoping for a cameo from Bon Jovi in the episode, but a team spokesman yesterday said he wasn't sure whether JBJ would appear. He did say that the Arena Football League granted use of the team logo in the show and that the team sent some merchandise to the series. The Soul, meanwhile, are 11-3 and tied for first with the Dallas Desperadoes. The fourth season of "Sunny" premieres on FX in September.

State Sens. John Rafferty and Mike Stack were on hand for shooting on Friday and chatted with the cast and director Fred Savage. The senators were quickly roped into the action, taping a segment on camera playing senators trying to shut down the production, taking turns discussing how "filthy and offensive" the risque comedy is. In real life, both are supporters of the show, as well as the PA Film Tax Credit, which helps bring movies and television shows to Philadelphia.

WuChess....motha fucka

The remaining members of the historic Wu-Tang Clan have made the natural progression in their Rap/Hip-Hop careers and finally introduced an online interactive chess community....it's about time. Now, after slappin' a ho and countin' that cheese, gangstas can log in and play chess against the Rza and other members of the worldwide WuChess community for cash prizes or just "for the joy of flexin' your mentals." Check out this tour with Rakaa of the Dialated Peoples...

The Dialated Peoples are at Iriving Plaza this Friday, 9pm.

"I used to get a boner for Brad"

Quite possibly the only context where that phrase isn't gay....

BEST. THEME SONG. EVER.

Still Awesome

I just listened to this album again from start to finish. I remember specifically playing this record and having a certain someone say "these guys are terrible they are just noise." (1) Is there anything wrong with that? (Answer absolutely not) (2) You're an idiot

Still amazing.

Nevermind

Radiohead (or part of Radiohead) covers Portishead

Heady.....get it....anyway, this video is cool. I have some great footage from Alan Braxe and lifelike. As a sidenote, lifelike destroyed.
