I am going to Ween tomorrow....enjoy your weekend....don't piss on the electric fence.
Real Estate are my favorite band right now if you haven't figure that out yet...bliss. I will be posting more tracks as I find them. I have seen these guys three times in the last three weeks...I think they are starting to get creeped out. Lets rock the beach.
Real Estate - Atlantic City
See them live...they are 10 times better than the track above but this is all I have until they release an album.

Wavves, Woods, Real Estate and Popo - Bowery Ballroom - July 15th, 2009 [Analysis]

I flew solo to Wavves at the Bowery last night. If anyone here is reading this and went, I was the guy in the back that looked like Harry Potter on blotter acid.
First off. Popo...meh. Real Estate...as always..the fucking bomb. Woods, terrific as well. I have seen Woods a number of times now and they simply sound the best at the Bowery. This of course makes sense, shitty hand me down PA or...the Bowery...obviously they sound better at the latter. Now, on to Wavves.
To start, the guy sounds a lot better in the live setting. I don't absolutely HATE his albums but a lot of the press he received was based exclusively on hype. He lived up to that hype at the Bowery last night. Full on beach punk fuzz, short songs, he showed plenty of heart, and he played with a fucking broken wrist. Respeck. The songs sound great live...oh and did I mention....there was FULL ON STAGE DIVING. I am talking Nirvana 1991 moshing and stage diving from the crowd. It was awesome.
If you have the chance, see Wavves live, rad dude with a guitar and drums..that's it...30 minutes, punk up the butt with a pina colada in hand while skateboarding...Cali's finest...dig...Ellipsis.
The set was a mix of his notable tracks and apparently something new in there for good measure. What else can I say...the dude has talent and definitely puts on a good energy filled concert. Wavves has now elevated his status in my book from meh to very good. Great Job!
Only down side to the evening...really young...sorta lame crowd. Stay safe gang.

Ween

3/4 of Dreamtard are heading down to Asbury Park, NJ for Ween this Saturday. Here's a quick little interview Deaner did for a local NJ paper about the show.
Some notes though:
1) Ween is playing on sat NOT fri
2) Ween is NOT touring with a second guitarist
3) Dean Ween feels the exact same as me about Twitter & Facebook

Zappa

I was listening to my music library on shuffle yesterday and it threw some Zappa right in my face. I don't know why this happens but I find myself not listening to Zappa for months at a time and then always kicking myself in the ass when he gets back into my rotation. I mean whats not to like about him??? Great/hilarious lyrics, his band always consisted of the best of the best musicians around at the time, and the guy fucking destroyed on the guitar.
He was also king to some of the best one liners around. Some of my personal favorites:
- A mind is like a parachute. It doesnt work if it's not open
- All the good music has already been written by people with wigs and stuff.
- Most rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for people who can't read.
- Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.
- Tobacco is my favorite vegetable

UPDATE: Wavves, Woods, Real Estate and Popo - Bowery Ballroom - July 15th, 2009
Wavves "No Hope Kids" from Pete Ohs on Vimeo.
UPDATE: Apparently Nathan has broken his hand while skateboarding but is still playing tomorrow night against doctors orders.................I am now officially 100% down with this guy....badass....that's what you want to hear. Oh, did I break my arm while on a slip and slide...NO...I was thrashing the gnar on my skateboard...that's how he lives...know it.
Wavves has his first show since the much publicized mehltdown in Barcelona this Wednesday at Bowery Ballroom. With a new drummer, this is a big show for Nathan. To be honest....this dude has grown on me...I really do enjoy at least what he stands for and some of his tracks as well. His live shows are pretty terrific and I am really looking forward to checking him out...reinvigorated. Tickets are shockingly still available...see the link below.

In a recent interview addressing his now famous Barcelona show Wavves talks about effectively just being a guy...a guy who makes music...and who really never expected to get this much attention, this quickly. He's a guy, and he messes up, and that makes him more endearing in my opinion. I am excited to see him...at least he is doing something creative and standing by it...I respect that...Great Job!
Check out his awesome recent music video above. See you at the Bowery losers.
